01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Torn by hand, the white bread from Nogami reveals a moist, airy texture and an understated sweetness that develops with every chew. The shop's flagship shokupan loaf, Sogyo Nogami, is sold in both a standard size and an accessible half-loaf. Its crumb is fine-grained and silk-smooth, while the thin crust carries a subtle caramel nuance and remains tender throughout. It can be eaten unadorned straight from the wrapper, or lightly toasted to bring out its natural sugars.

For a toasted, roasty note distinct from the classic loaf, Nogami also bakes Kuroyama Nogami. Produced through the bakery's signature scorched-crust method, this pain de mie develops a deep, browned crust that offsets the sweet, springy crumb within. Rotating between the two styles depending on whether it is breakfast or teatime is part of the appeal of a dedicated bread specialist.

A curated shelf of spreads and beverages rounds out the counter. The selection includes strawberry jam adjusted for each season's harvest, orange marmalade sliced with the fruit pulp to keep bitterness minimal, and blueberry jam made with thin-skinned, aromatic Japanese blueberries. Single-origin drip bags from 102 Coffee balance gentle bitterness with sweetness, making it easy to bring home a complete breakfast set alongside your bread.

Located along the road in Meguro, this branch operates exclusively for takeout, making it convenient to drop by during daily errands or in transit. In addition to standalone loaves, gift boxes and sets featuring jam and coffee are readily assembled for home use or as thoughtful food gifts.
